What began as a flight of fancy has become a digital writers’ roost.
The Seabird Writing Conference started with a simple—perhaps a little birdbrained—question: where were all the free intercollegiate online writing spaces? We searched and searched… and discovered that many groups demanded payment, while most free workshops were specific to one university.
The answer? Found one ourselves. Our name reflects our ethos: just as seabirds migrate thousands of miles every year, our workshops link student writers from sea to shining sea.
To keep things free and accessible, the SWC hosts all its events via Discord, and after a few years, our server is positively teeming with life. If you want quality feedback from college writers of all levels and interests, then join the main event: our quarterly prose or poetry workshops! If you want more casual commentary, though, you can always send your work to our #writing-exchange channel. Experiencing writer’s block? We host multiple twenty-minute word sprints every week, where your word count is sure to climb sky-high. And if you just want to talk writing, we have an active #chat channel.
